Virtual File System

Files open under the gwi:// scheme — full language support, IntelliSense, and all your installed extensions work out of the box.

Live Save on Ctrl+S

Every save pushes changes to the server instantly. Works with VS Code's built-in autosave too — no manual sync step.

Full File Explorer

Folder tree in the activity bar. Create, rename, and delete files and folders from the right-click context menu.

Script Execution

Run .java, .py, and .lua files on the server directly from the tree view or editor title bar — no terminal needed.

Auth Flow Parity

Mirrors the browser editor's auth handshake exactly — request access, wait for operator approval in-game, then connect automatically.

Configurable

Pre-fill token, display name, and poll interval in VS Code settings. Point the extension at your own self-hosted worker if needed.

How the connection works

The extension uses the same REST API as the browser-based GWI Editor — no extra infrastructure required.

Install the extension

Download the .vsix and run Extensions: Install from VSIX in the Command Palette.

Start a session in-game

On your Minecraft server, run /coder editor start as an operator to generate a session token.

Connect from VS Code

Click the ⚡ Coder GWI icon, hit Connect to Session, and paste your token and display name.

Approve and edit

Approve in-game with /coder editor approve <name>. Your files appear — click any to start editing.
